Day 8 - Running terrible...downswing

Today went pretty much terrible. I've never ran so terrible in one day. I ended the day with a cooler and running a good 3 buy-ins under EV. I experimented with a little mix of both 6 max and FR today and it didn't pay off.

Here's the final hand and the dip in my graph that just put me over the edge.

Results:
Limit: 10nl FR/6 max
Number of Hands Played: 903
Amount Won: -26.10
Rakeback Earned: +$4.10
Total Won (Today): -22.00
Total Won (Overall): +72.51
Amount Remaining to reach Goal: $2,427.49

Running so terrible all day caused me to get tilted and not play my 100% like I should be. This is another major setback to my goal and I need to pick it up a lot more in the coming weeks in order to make ground where I should be.

  1. I envy you if 3 buy ins under EV is your worst day ever. Also, I think that river bet/size is a pretty big mistake :X

  2. Definitely not my worst day ever, but feels it since I have a goal I'm working for and the setback is whats killing me.

What would you suggest for the river?

  3. If having a monetary goal is going to tilt you, you should consider changing your goal. Maybe a volume goal would be better, especially since at 10nl, the goal isn't really to make a lot of money, but to get better and improve your game.

I don't know what the player was like, but betting pot on the river there looks incredibly strong. What do you expect him to call that raise with that you beat? He never has a big pocket pair here, he's folding every 6 he may have stuck around with, as well as 88, 99 and Tx's. Also, doesn't he have a 5 here very often? The only hands he could possibly call that bet with are higher sets and straights. 1/4-1/2 pot bets may induce crying calls or something, but you have to be willing to fold to a raise.

    Just my opinion though. GL

  4. Oh, and he can call with 33 too of course. :P

  5. Well thanks for the help. Honestly from my share of experience at 10NL the past weeks, people will call that raise with over pairs and top pair even on wet boards. They just simply don't see how many hands beat them. From this particular player I knew he favored over pairs so I figured I was good and if he ended up with 5x then it was whatever. I wouldn't have been as annoyed if that was the case, but the set on the river was just tilting.

About the goal thing. I originally only wanted a goal of $1000, although Jake persuaded me to set a higher one which I'm not going to be upset if I don't make it as it seems out of reach for my ability as the start, but I'm hoping to beat the limits enough to move up and get closer to the goal not just grind 10NL the whole time.

Today's a new day and I'm over it. Gonna try and put in some solid sessions today. Thanks for the input though I appreciate it as I'm still trying to get better anyway I can.

  6. But how many overpairs and Tx's could he possibly have here, realistically? He never has JJ-AA, obviously, and he how often can he possibly have 88-99, which I don't even think a standard bad player would call here anyway, though that's subjective. The 7 is the worst card ever here.

  7. True true. I guess I understand your reasoning much clearer now. I do agree that maybe the river bet is a mistake and him coming over the top was a definite fold. Thanks for explaining it better. I'll look to plug this in the future.
